Operational policy
Dog welfare and coat care
Effective 13 August 2026
This policy explains the welfare-led boundaries Sam applies while grooming. It is written for customers and can be printed using your browser’s print command.
Welfare and service suitability
Suitability is assessed individually. There is no fixed exclusion list by breed, size, coat, age or health condition. Sam may adapt or decline a service for welfare or safety reasons, or stop grooming for those reasons.
Tell Sam about relevant health concerns and any known aggression or biting history before the appointment so she can consider a safe approach.
Matting and clipping
Sam makes a welfare-led coat assessment and attempts only limited de-matting where it is safe and comfortable. She does not apply a rigid time or area threshold.
Where necessary, Sam may recommend clipping the coat short or seeking veterinary help. Where practicable before a shave-down, she will explain the options, likely finish, risks and the £15 additional charge for clipping or materially increased work, and ask for your agreement.
Double coats are not clipped routinely. A welfare-led exception requires informed owner agreement. Sam will explain that coat regrowth can change, without promising a particular outcome.
Health, puppies and fleas
Unwell or potentially contagious dogs should not attend.
Puppies may attend from one week after their final vaccination. Owners confirm vaccination status; documentary proof is not routinely required.
Please do not bring a dog with fleas. If fleas are discovered during grooming, a £10 deep-cleaning charge applies.
Care boundaries and veterinary help
Sam does not express anal glands. She does not routinely pluck ears, apart from loose hair that comes away without force. Where treatment is needed, she will recommend veterinary advice.
If urgent veterinary care becomes necessary and the owner cannot be reached, Sam may arrange care. Reasonable veterinary treatment costs remain the owner’s responsibility. Detailed consent arrangements form part of the separate signed Salon onboarding terms.
